The Wicker Chair LADIES T-Shirt
This image is iconic but have you ever seen it in the color of urgency? Dr. Huey Percy Newton was the co-founder of the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense. He lead by example. Two years after the organization was founded, Newton was shot during a traffic stop. The cop who shot him didn't survive the encounter. Huey was tried and convicted for the killing and served 2 years in prison. His conviction was overturned in 1970 by the California Court of Appeals on the grounds that the trial judge had failed properly to instruct the jury.
When he left the courthouse that day, the crowd surged into the street and blocked traffic. Newton climbed on top of a car, stripped off his grey prison uniform shirt, and shouted, “You have the power and the power is with the people.”
